Description:

Vancomycin for Injection BP is a glycopeptide antibiotic used for the treatment of serious Gram-positive bacterial infections, including those caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Vancomycin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. It is particularly effective against Gram-positive cocci, enterococci, and Clostridium difficile in systemic infections.

Vancomycin is widely used in hospital-acquired infections, severe sepsis, endocarditis, bone and joint infections, and skin and soft tissue infections.

Composition:

Each vial contains:

• Vancomycin Hydrochloride BP – 500 mg / 1 g

• Excipients: q.s. for injection (lyophilized powder)

After reconstitution with sterile water or suitable diluent, it is ready for intravenous (IV) or slow IV infusion.

Uses / Indications:

Vancomycin for Injection is indicated for:

1. Serious Gram-positive infections including:

   • Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections

   • Enterococcal infections

   • Skin and soft tissue infections

   • Bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis)

   • Endocarditis

2. Severe infections in patients allergic to penicillin

3. Hospital-acquired infections

4. Sepsis and bacteremia caused by Gram-positive bacteria

Dosage & Administration:

• Adults: 15–20 mg/kg every 8–12 hours depending on infection severity and renal function

• Children: 10–15 mg/kg every 6–8 hours

• Route: IV infusion (over at least 60 minutes)

• Important: Not for rapid IV injection; dose adjustment required in renal impairment

• Should be administered under medical supervision
